DIY Fall Pantry Canister Labels That Don’t Peel or Bubble
If you have ever made pantry labels and watched them peel off after a week in the pantry or trap bubbles you can’t get out, this tutorial is for you.
I finally found the combo that gives that soft frosted farmhouse look in the photos clear matte vinyl as the backing with chestnut brown script on top. It looks like etched glass, but it’s just permanent vinyl and it stays on.
I made mine for Flour, Sugar, Apple Cider, and Cocoa because I use those all fall for baking and cider bars.
Why Clear Matte Vinyl, Not White?
White labels are too stark. Clear matte gives you that frosted seaglass look and lets the flour, sugar, and cocoa show through. In my photo I used clear matte permanent vinyl, not printable sticker paper. Sticker paper peels with flour dust. Permanent vinyl does not.

How To Make Fall Pantry Canister Labels
Step 1: Measure
My 50oz canisters are 4.5 inches wide at the flattest point. My labels are 4.5 inches wide x 3 inches tall. If you have Dollar Tree canisters, make them 3.5 x 2.5.
Step 2: Design in Cricut Design Space
1. New Project > Shapes > Rectangle. Set to 4.5 x 3.
2. Add Text. Type Flour. Font: I used “Autumn in November” if you don’t have it, use “Alex Brush” or “KG Primary Penmanship” in Design Space. Both are that soft fall script.
3. Size text to 2.5 inches wide so it fills the rectangle with space around it.
4. Duplicate rectangle 3 times. Change text to Sugar, Apple Cider, Cocoa.
5. For Apple Cider, make it 2 lines, centered, slightly smaller font.
6. Select all > Attach.
Step 3: Cut
β’ Place clear matte vinyl on mat, cut 4 rectangles. Material: Premium Vinyl – Permanent. No mirroring.
β’ Place chestnut brown vinyl on mat, cut Flour, Sugar, Apple Cider, Cocoa. Same setting.
Step 4: Layer Your Labels
Weed the brown words. Leave clear rectangles alone.
Use transfer tape to pick up Flour and center it on one clear rectangle. Burnish hard with scraper. Repeat for the other 3. Now you have 4 frosted labels with brown text.
Step 5: The No Bubble Application
1. Wipe canister with alcohol. Dry completely.
2. Lightly mist canister front with soapy water. This lets you slide the label.
3. Peel backing off clear label and place on wet canister. Slide to center.
4. Starting in center, scrape outward to push water and air out. Use felt edge so you don’t scratch.
5. Let dry 24 hours before filling.
The water method is why mine have no bubbles in the photo.
Styling Tips From My Shelf
I filled mine with flour, sugar, dried apple slices for the Apple Cider jar, and cocoa powder. Add mini pumpkins, a cinnamon stick bundle, and a little eucalyptus like in my photo. It photographs so well for Pinterest.
FAQ
Will removable vinyl work?
No. Removable peels in pantry humidity. Use permanent.
Can I wash them?
Wipe outside with damp cloth only. Not dishwasher safe.
What if my canister is curved?
Cut a tiny 1/8 inch slit at the bottom center of the clear backing with your weeding tool before applying. It releases the curve tension.
What font is that?
In my photo it’s a soft script similar to Autumn in November. In Cricut Design Space search “fall script” and look for Alex Brush.
