If you have a basket of fabric scraps and 10 minutes, you have a ghost garland.
I love this project because it’s no-sew, uses what you already have, and those little pudgy ghosts look so sweet on a mantel. It’s also a great stash-buster for old sheets, baby clothes, or thrifted quilts.
What You’ll Need:
• White and neutral fabric scraps muslin, cheesecloth, cotton, linen. Tear them for a soft frayed edge.
• Small stuffing cotton balls, polyfill, wool balls, or 1-inch styrofoam balls
• Jute twine or yarn
• Scissors and hot glue
• Black fine-tip marker or small black felt dots for eyes
How to Make Fabric Ghosts:
1. Cut squares. Cut 5 to 6 inch squares for mini ghosts, or 10×10 inch for bigger, fluffier ones. Mix prints I used white muslin and a vintage floral.
2. Form the heads. Place a cotton ball in the center of the square, gather the fabric around it and shape a little head.
3. Tie the neck. Wrap a small piece of twine around the neck and tie with a tiny bow. If you want to string them later, leave the tail long.
4. Add faces. Two little dots with a marker is the sweetest. You can also glue on felt.
5. Make the garland. Hot glue or tie each ghost to a long strand of twine, spacing them 6-8 inches apart. Add 7-9 ghosts for a 4-foot mantel.
Styling tip: Drape it with mini pumpkins, dried maple leaves, acorns and a linen runner. It looks adorable on a mantel, open shelf, headboard, or across a window.
Make it your own:
• All white for farmhouse, floral for cottagecore, orange gingham for vintage Halloween
• Add tiny bows with baker’s twine
• Lightly starch cheesecloth ghosts if you want them stiffer
It really is that quick. Tag me if you make one I love seeing your versions.
